Traditional Cretan Cookery with Helen.
The Mediterranean Diet has long been known to promote health and longevity, with it's ability to decrease illness, it emphasizes eating vegetables, fruit, nuts and legumes on a daily basis , olive oil instead of butter, fish and seafood once or twice a week but meat and sweets very rarely. Of course an equally important part of the Mediterranean Diet is the lifestyle, social interaction and outdoor activity.
I love to cook nutritious and delicious food, Cretan Cuisine in particular, to eat and share with my family and friends. And for many years now, visitors to Arete have asked me why I don't give cookery lessons. So this year I am taking their advice and sharing the culinary knowledge and experience I have gained, over the past 13 years here in Crete.
I will be offering a bespoke cookery lesson, be it a demo & dine or a hands on experience, the lessons will be structured around your preference.
The time will be based on what you choose to cook , it can be anything from a 1 hour lesson on how to make a traditional Greek/Cretan salad, Tzatziki and a Cretan Dakos with goats cheese, to a 4 hour lesson with 4 or 5 dishes including the more complex Moussaka or vegetarian dishes like Boureki.
Vegan and Vegetarian options available in all dishes.
Each lesson will include all the ingredients required for the chosen dishes, of course everything will be made using our very own organic extra virgin olive oil, seasonal produce from our land and available local produce.
And when it's over, you get to eat it. Kali Oreksi! (Enjoy your meal!)
