Walks in The West |
|
Gingilos in February Towering over the entrance of the Samaria Gorge and said to be the most impressive and accessible summit walk in Crete, is Gingilos. At 1980 metres with staggering views and a total walk time of appx 5 hours, it is an exhilarating trek for experienced walkers. Lissos in October Starting at the harbour of Sougia, a small village on the south-west coast , a path takes you through a pine filled gorge and up the hill to a plateau with stunning views. Heading west you soon see the lush valley of Lissos below leading to a small pebble beach. A steep path takes you down to the valley with its ancient temple of Aesculap and two Chapels, Agios Kyriakos and The Panagia. Only 90 minutes each way you can afford to take time to explore this magical place before returning to Sougia and a well deserved dip in the Libyan Sea. |
