We are Sean and Helen who, together with

our Border collie “Bronwen”, moved to Crete

in 2005 and after three years of planning and preparation,  followed by 4 months in a caravan and then 3 months in a tent, we moved into our new home “Arete” on Christmas Eve 2005 with two armchairs, a bed and a roaring log fire.

Our aim is to provide for ourselves as much as possible from our land & animals, the rest we source locally and from our neighbors . We harvest our olives in the winter providing us with more than enough extra virgin olive oil for the  year, grow vegetables all year round in the garden and keep chickens and geese for eggs.

Two bee hives give us the sweetest honey we’ve ever tasted and local knowledge guides us to the best places for picking wild greens “horta”, purslane and fennel, thyme and oregano. Eventually we hope to keep a goat for cheese and a donkey for a ride to the Kafeneion.

Stressed out mother hen, Wee.vegetables from our gardenText Box: 2010 was our most exciting year yet as we volunteered to help with the protection of Crete’s most endangered visitors.
As our guests you are welcome to join us for an exhilarating, sun-rise walk on our early morning patrols of the local beaches in search of nests from May to September and for the lucky ones, a glimpse of the baby turtles emerging.
